THE DESIGN PROCESS

To give you an idea of the way in which we work, we have outlined the different stages involved in a project designed by us. Not every project will require all the stages, and design quotes are always tailored to your needs.

The Design Process: FAQ

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

We offer a free initial consultation, lasting up to 2 hours. I will visit your home and garden to get a good feel for the space and to talk to you about the possibilities and ideas you have. After the consultation we will send you our client brief which will summarise our meeting and also include our ongoing design fees and pricing structure.

2. SITE SURVEY & ANALYSIS

As well as measuring the physical space and recording any level changes, this will also take into consideration the soil type & pH, your garden's aspect and any existing trees or shrubs that you would like to keep in the garden. If the site is very large or complicated we may suggest that a landscape surveyor is instructed to carry out this work

3. CONCEPT DESIGN

The design process then begins with a rough, concept plan to be discussed with you before moving toward a final outline plan. Your input is highly valued at this stage, and will ensure that the final design suits your brief perfectly.

4. DETAILED OUTLINE PLAN

I will then produce a detailed, scaled, hand coloured design for your garden. If required, we can also produce axonometric sketches of particular views or details of the garden to help you visualise the 2D plan.

5. DETAILED PLANTING PLAN

After discussing with you your preferences with regards to colour, form and structure in the garden, the planting plan will be designed. The plants will be chosen to suit your site conditions specifically, and to perfectly balance the hard landscaping design. If required we can source the plants for you and oversee the planting to ensure the plan is followed correctly. We will accompany the planting plan with a plant schedule detailing the quantities and sizes of plants needed.

6. TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

These drawings encompass all the construction details for the project and the layout drawings for the contractor to use. We will discuss with you the materials to be used for all aspects of hard landscaping, and detail them in these drawings.

7. SPECIFICATION & SCOPE OF WORKS -

Finally, these documents which specify the materials to be used, and detail how the work should be carried out will be produced. Once you are ready to move onto the construction stage, these documents will be sent to various contractors for them to accurately quote for the work.

EXTRAS AND AFTERCARE

We would be happy to help you in selecting contractors to work with to realise your new garden. We also offer project monitoring to ensure the design is built as expected, and aftercare packages, including helping you to source the perfect garden furniture and features, maintenance schedules and design updates as and when you need them. These can be arranged and quoted for once the design has been completed.
